The Serengeti National Park is undoubtedly a world-renowned wilderness, celebrated by many and a source of inspiration for all of us safari and wildlife enthusiasts. The Maasai named it “a place where land runs forever”, and with its sweeping grasslands, rocky outcrops and mixed woodlands reaching over 1,475,00 hectares (3,644,800 acres) – you can believe it!
It is known for hosting the largest overland migration in the world – the Great Wildebeest Migration. The numbers alone are astounding with over 1.5 million wildebeest, 400,000 zebra and 200,000 Thomson gazelle following the rains and migrating throughout the year. Crossing into Kenya’s Masai Mara in July to return in October.
Moving away from the Great Migration, life in Tanzania’s oldest National Park truly thrives throughout the year. Big cat sightings are practically a certainty with territorial lion prides observing the resident herds from rocky outcrops; leopards conserving their energy in impressive woodlands and cheetahs stretching-out their running gaits on the open plains. All while herds of buffalo and elephants lumber through ancient grasslands with a journey of giraffes framing the horizon.
Of course, with all this natural luxury, the Serengeti is also home to ultra-luxury lodges. All of which have been designed to provide you with a safari experience that compliments and celebrates this magnificent wilderness. From the honeymooners looking for romantic sunsets and private views, to families searching for an honest grounding family safari to reconnect. There is a perfect lodge for you!
