With luxury travel options across South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, Kenya, Mozambique, Tanzania, Uganda, and Rwanda, safety is top-notch from touchdown to takeoff.

In safari destinations such as South Africa’s Kruger National Park and surrounds, Kenya’s Masai Mara, Tanzania’s Serengeti and Botswana’s Okavango Delta, luxury lodges are synonymous with providing exceptional guided tours by experienced rangers who have undergone extensive and rigorous training in understanding wildlife behavior as well as emergency protocols; and offering services that are centered around guests’ enjoyment and safety.
At all major international airports, you will have access to meet-and-greet services, and private driver guides who will ensure safe, personalized transfers. And, when you land on remote airstrips, you can relax knowing that there will be a representative from your lodge waiting to usher you to your next adventure.
From the moment you land to the moment you head home, you will be (for a lack of a better word), hand-held. Each step of your journey has been carefully choreographed to include strict safety protocols, which includes everything from airport assists and top-notch security at all accommodation options to ensuring interactions with wildlife are thrilling yet secure.
My Own Experience…
As a female solo traveler, I embarked on a journey to Kenya’s Masai Mara and Tanzania’s Serengeti with a mix of excitement and a bit of nervousness. I was to spend three weeks in some of the most remote locations, solely relying on the coordinated efforts of my travel agent and their partners.
From the moment I landed in Nairobi, a bustling African city, my concerns were almost immediately abated. I was greeted by the warmest welcome from a representative of my travel agency, who escorted me through customs and into a private vehicle. My driver-guide, an experienced local, ensured every part of my trip to my hotel was seamless and safe.
After my city stay, I was collected from my hotel and driven to the domestic airport for my short flight into the Masai Mara. Here, after being met by my safari guide at the bush airstrip, I enjoyed my first game drive to the lodge. The luxury camp was a sanctuary of comfort, equipped with all the amenities one could wish for.
The staff were attentive and always prioritized my safety. Game drives were conducted by my professional guide who was knowledgeable and respectful of both wildlife and guests. Each outing into the wilderness was exhilarating and secure, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the experience.
Crossing into the Serengeti, the transition was equally smooth. A light aircraft flight whisked me over the stunning landscapes, landing directly in the heart of the park. The Serengeti camp provided an equally high level of security and luxury. The combination of well-organized logistics, expert guidance, and top-tier accommodations made my solo adventure not only safe but extraordinarily enriching.
Throughout my adventure, my travel agent kept in touch by periodically checking in to see if there was anything I needed or just to find out what incredible wildlife I saw at each property. Not once did I feel isolated or alone. I may have arrived as a solo traveler but ultimately left feeling a part of the “Africa family” – such was the level of comfort, security and endearment extended to me by my hosts.

5 Must-Know Safety Tips When Traveling to Africa
- Choose Reputable Tour Operators

Always book your safari with well-established and reputable tour operators or travel agencies. - Health Precautions and Travel Insurance
Before your trip, Ubuntu Travel will go over any health precautions you should be aware of. However, we also advise that you consult a travel clinic about necessary vaccinations and medications, such as malaria prophylaxis. Carry a basic first aid kit, and ensure you have comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical emergencies.
- Follow Wildlife Guidelines
Always listen to your guides and follow their instructions when it comes to interacting with wildlife. Maintain a safe distance, stay inside the vehicle during game drives, and avoid sudden movements or loud noises to prevent provoking animals.
- Secure Your Valuables
Keep your valuables secure by using hotel safes and avoiding carrying large sums of cash or expensive jewelry. Be cautious in crowded areas and stay aware of your surroundings to prevent petty theft.
- Be Mindful of Local Customs and Laws
Respect local customs, traditions, and laws in the countries you visit. Dress modestly, especially in rural or conservative areas, and seek permission before photographing people. Understanding and respecting cultural norms enhances your safety and enriches your travel experience.
